In the early days of Nam Kue School, every descendant of the South Sea was taught for free. By 1980, the number of students was about 500 to 600. So the Sam Yap Benevolent Association changed it to Nanhai, Panyu, and Shunde descents, those descended from Sam Yap, received scholarships and financial aid. So far the amount of scholarships and financial aid donated add up to more than seventy thousand per year.
Since the beginning to present, students from Pre-K to third year of High School attend classes including: Mandarin–Chinese Pinyin, simplified form of Chinese words (textbooks are from JiNan University (暨南大学) foreign student edition in China), computer class, calligraphy class, martial arts and self defense class, and dance class. So far the number of students has reached over 1,500. There are a number of classes to fit students’ schedule: after school classes, Saturday or Sunday classes, and summer school; however, students are accepted only if there are available spots in an individual class.
