Gellenkirchen Air Base is the core base for NATO (NATO) airborne early warning and control forces, where the NATO Early Warning and Control Aircraft (AWACS) force is stationed to provide air surveillance and command and control services for NATO allied forces. The base also hosts Dutch and German troops and forces from other NATO allies, making it a multinational shared-use base. At the same time, Gellenkirchen Air Base provides vital airlift and logistics support to Germany and Europe.
