The airport (IQM) is located in the Gomak County of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, about 7 km from the city of Gomak. Construction of the airport began in 2006 and it was officially opened to traffic in 2007. The runway of the airport is 2400 meters long and can meet the take-off and landing needs of Boeing 737 and other aircraft.
It is also one of the important regional airports in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. In addition to serving the military, the airport also hosts a number of civil aviation flights, linking cities such as Jiangmu and Urumqi to meet the travel needs of local residents and tourists. The airport terminal building has facilities such as waiting lounges, security check lanes, stores and restaurants to provide basic passenger services.
