Tegel Otto Lilienthal Airport (IATA: TXL, ICAO: EDDT), also known as Berlin Tegel Airport, is an international airport in Berlin, Germany, located in the Tegel Otto Lilienthal (Tegel) area of the Berlin metropolitan area, and is the main airport of the Berlin Airport Group and the largest airport in Berlin. The airport began operations in 1948 and is the oldest airport in the Berlin area and the largest airport of the Berlin Airport Group. With two runways and a capacity of over 20 million passengers per year, it is the sixth largest airport in Europe. The airport has a number of international routes, mainly serving Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America. The airport is well connected to the Berlin metropolitan area and beyond.
