The Tasmania Chinese School was founded in 1997 as a non-religious, non-profit community school. Tasmania is a beautiful island situated in the most southern part of Australia with idyllic scenery. It is sparsely populated, with even less ethnic Chinese. Over the last thirteen years staff and students worked hard to increase the number of student enrollment with approximately half the students from non-Chinese background. It is the only Chinese Language School in Hobart, Tasmanian. All the School teachers are from mainland China, and they have many years of teaching Chinese in China and Australia. They have a wealth of experience and qualification with some teachers even having formal education qualifications. Over the years school teachers have been sent to China in batches to receive advanced formal training from the Chinese Affairs Office of the Overseas Chinese State Council.
The purpose of the Tasmania Chinese School is to sponsor and promote traditional Chinese culture, student interest in learning Chinese, and to provide students with the optimum environment conditions and opportunities to learn Chinese leading to improved student standards in oral and written Chinese.
